By Dr Lokman Khan, Bradford
I’m the hero in your eyes,
For love has shown you my rise.
You’ve seen me soar, reach new heights,
In your heart, my courage ignites.
Yet to some, I’m the foe,
Hated, for reasons they think they know.
Misunderstood, a stranger’s face,
Never known, lost without a trace.
To the world, I might be none,
An unknown soul, like a setting sun.
No desire to unveil my story,
I remain shrouded in my own glory.
But these views, they don’t define,
In my mirror, heroism’s line.
I know my worth, my inner zeal,
Self-respect, a truth so real.
Honest I stayed, to me, to all,
Facing life, standing tall.
Through storms and trials, I did not fall,
Resilience my shield, I’ve walked through the wall.
Enemies arose, wished my demise,
But forgiveness is where my pride lies.
A noble act, a heart unscarred,
Moving forward, I’ve disregarded.
Love for mine, for all mankind,
A love for self, in my own mind.
I cherish the bonds that we’ve designed,
Humanity’s warmth, forever entwined.
Your hero I may not always be,
But in my story, I hold the key.
A hero to myself, I’ll always see,
For I am me, and that’s my decree.
