Dr. Lokman Khan
You should not give up
on what you are—
not now,
not after all this time.
You are a good mother,
even when the world doesn’t say it,
even when your hands shake
folding tiny clothes in silence,
even when your tears dry before anyone sees.
Keep being that mother—
your child already knows.
You are a great father,
though you doubt it sometimes,
though you come home tired and hollow,
still giving what little is left
to the ones who look up with hope.
You don’t need to be anything else.
Not richer.
Not louder.
Not perfect.
Just you.
You are a good friend.
Even when you forget to text back,
Even when you’re silent for days.
You’re the one who shows up when it matters—
and that’s enough for me to know.
You love something—
a craft, a song, a dream still flickering
like a match in the wind.
Hold on.
Keep doing it.
That flame remembers you.
The world might ask you
to shrink, to bend, to fit.
But I’m asking you something else—
Don’t.
Don’t give up
on being yourself.
You are not broken.
You are becoming.
And that is a beautiful,
honest thing.
