In a world flipped upside down, where truths shake,
Where the honest man’s promises no longer good,
I look around at the changing act,
Where strong beliefs now quietly swaps.
Am I seeing the good guy not telling the truth?
His words once solid, now seem lacking grace,
A picture of honesty now coming undone,
In the fading light of the setting sun.
Am I seeing the faithful one turn away?
From his God, his beliefs, in the light of day,
Where once was sureness, now uncertainty grows,
And tales of faith are no longer close.
Is this what’s happening right here and now?
Where clear lines fade, and heated words allow,
Where it’s hard to tell right from wrong,
And we look for a sign to help us along.
But in this confusion of doubt and mistrust,
Maybe there’s a small hope, a tiny wind,
Of belief that sticks with the tired spirit,
Pushing us toward a goal, to come near it.
Even if the good guy slips up a bit,
And the faithful voice changes its level,
Inside every one of us, there’s a little spark,
Showing us the way when it gets dark.
So let’s not focus on what’s gone,
But work to cross the divide, to carry on,
For in all of us, there’s a little light,
Leading us through the toughest night.
